Our first yakitori pop-up in Hawthorn was one for the records. The Matsuyama x Bar Selecta Yakitori “Up in Smoke” Pop-Up brought together smoky hibachi skewers, premium sake, craft cocktails, and an unforgettable soundtrack inside Melbourne’s newest Japanese-inspired listening bar.
A special thank you goes out to Kenny Chiu (aka Hibachi Papi / Don Juan) and the Matsuyama Melbourne team for firing up the grill, alongside Joey and Masa who elevated the night with signature cocktails and sake pairings. On the decks, Stefan Cusak (aka djdecktektive & DMC Victoria 2024 Champion) and Gus from Wax Museum Records Melbourne kept the vibe alive with a mix of hip hop, funk, and vinyl cuts.
Most of all, we’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this one of the best pop-ups we’ve ever hosted at Bar Selecta Hawthorn. This is just the beginning—stay tuned for more yakitori pop-ups, sake events, and music collaborations in Melbourne.
